BJP ahead of Congress in run-up to general elections

The results of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, along with that of Municipal Corporation of Delhi has made all three parties, namely, the BJP, the Congress and the AAP, happy. The massive victory of the BJP in Gujarat shows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP still have complete grip over the state. Gujarat is considered to be the original laboratory of Hindutva politics. The communal politics of the BJP has paid dividends and it seems like they will continue to rule Gujarat for many more years with this trend.

The Himachal Pradesh result is bit of a surprise. Many thought it would be a close battle and that the BJP might spring a surprise. The saffron party pumped in huge money and the Congress could not match them. The victory is a massive boost to party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who had campaigned extensively during the election. However, the Gujarat and MCD results should worry the Congress. In Gujarat, the AAP has managed to hurt the Congress and this can be repeated in others parts of India. The party needs to look into it. In Delhi too, the Congress is struggling to make a presence. With just one-and-a-half year remaining for the general election, the BJP looks way ahead of the Congress.
