AALO, 23 Sep: The first-ever district-level indigenous sports competition was held at the GHSS playground here in West Siang district on Saturday.
Various indigenous sports, like bamboo pushing, bamboo climbing, tug of war, dasi hanam, arrow shooting, stick walk, etc, were organised.
Attending the closing ceremony, MLA Kento Jini encouraged the participants, and distributed the prizes to the winners.
ZPC Tumpe Ete also attended the closing ceremony.
Earlier, DC Penga Tato, who declared the competition open, informed the participants about the 10 per cent job reservation for meritorious sportspersons in government departments. He advised the youths to abstain from consumption of drugs and alcohol, and encouraged the youths to participate in sports events.
The indigenous sports competition was funded by the director of sports, and assisted by the Indian Army. (DIPRO)
