Reconsider entry charges to Polo Park

Editor,

The residents of Naharlagun are concerned over the daily entry fee of 20 rupees at Polo Park in D Sector, Naharlagun. This nominal fee, seemingly inconspicuous, has become a significant burden for the local community, especially for students striving to prepare for constable recruitment exams and individuals seeking regular exercise.

The residents have highlighted the inconvenience faced by students who find it challenging to bear the daily expense while focusing on their studies. Additionally, those who rely on evening walks for their wellbeing, particularly individuals from low-income backgrounds, are finding it difficult to afford the entry fee.

This issue has led to a concerning trend where some youngsters resort to entering the park from its steep backside, risking their safety in the process. The dangerous climb poses a serious threat, raising questions about the responsibility in case of accidents or mishaps.

In light of these challenges, the community earnestly requests the park authorities to reconsider the entry charges. They appeal for a minimal fee or, ideally, free access to the park, emphasising that Polo Park is the only available green space in Naharlagun.

Such a gesture would not only alleviate the financial burden on the residents but also promote a healthier lifestyle for the community at large.
