JOLLANG, 7 Dec: The political science department of Himalayan University (HU) here organised a webinar on ‘Community development in Northeast India and the role of NGOs for uplifting the socioeconomic livelihoods of rural population’ on Thursday.
Resource person Dr Moses Newme, speaking on behalf of the East-West Interconnect forum, which has been focusing on the Northeast for the last two decades, informed that “the mission of East-West Interconnect is to create a corridor between the Northeast and the western region of India with the aim of expanding collaborative working network between the people of the two regions for mutual benefit.”
“The forum’s mission is also to promote community development for the socioeconomic benefits to all by empowering the young people in entrepreneurship and rural development, especially in the Northeast region,” he said.
Dr Newme also highlighted the significance of community development, especially in the Northeast, for uplifting the socioeconomic status of the rural population, and emphasised on “the role of NGOs involved for the overall growth and development of the rural poor.”
He added that “if the society has to change from the present socioeconomic status, it has to follow the principles of collective community participation.”
HU political science assistant professor Minpak Doji, academic deputy dean Dr L Malem Mangal, and assistant registrar Ipe Eshi also spoke.
