AALO, 5 Feb: West Siang district has completed providing drinking water connection to every household, in 117 villages, under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
During a programme organised at Gumin Kiin here to mark the achievement, MLA Kento Jini appealed to the Village Water Management Committees (VWMC) to “look after the infrastructure of JJM for its proper functioning,” and appealed to the villagers to “preserve the catchment areas of the water sources.”
“Deforestation is to be discouraged by all, and afforestation should be encouraged for preservation of water,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage, who is also the chairperson of the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), in her address urged the VWMCs to monitor the quality of water in their respective villages, and urged the villagers to plant more trees in the catchment areas.
She congratulated the PHED “on achieving 100 percent completion of Har Ghar Jal mission,” and said that “this could be achieved with the cooperation of every panchayat member, villagers, and the department to impart training on water test kit to every school.”
The MLA and the DC felicitated the best performing VWMC of the district.
PHED EE Binchen Nomuk and AEs Dorik Bagra and Itum Naso highlighted the “achievement, organisation, and management policy of the government.”
Among others, members of the DWSM, ZPMs, and panchayat members attended the programme. (DIPRO)
