Tawang gets two new faces as MLA candidates

TAWANG, 15 Apr: Following former two-time MLA Tsering Tashi’s decision to not contest the assembly election this year, Tawang has got two new faces as MLA candidates: the BJP’s Tsering Dorjee,and the National People’s Party’s (NPP) Namgey Tsering.

Dorjee was born on 25 December, 1967. A resident of Gyangkhar village in Tawang, he is a veteran political leader at the grassroots level, as he had been the ZPM of Tawang block from 2014-2024 for two consecutive terms.

Tsering was born on 1 August, 1981, and is a resident of Bomzha village in Tawang district. He has held the portfolio of the secretary-general of the Monpa Mimang Tsogpa since 2022, and was the ASM of 4-Kharung Bomzha from 2003-08. He was the chairperson of the 5-Mukto anchal samiti for two terms, from 2008-2018.

Tsering was the founding chairman of the Tawang District Sports Association, and also held the office of the chairman of the

Tawang District Football Association and the Tawang District Badminton Association. He also played a crucial role in founding the Social and Cultural Development Society and Monyul Film Production. He has been instrumental in conducting the Tawang Festival and other events.
