Frontier Highway will change lives in rural Arunachal

In hugely encouraging news, the Changlang deputy commissioner has started the preliminary hearing on acquisition of land for construction of the 161-km Kharsang-Miao-Vijaynagar Frontier Highway. This comes after the union government recently allocated Rs 6621.62 crores for the construction of eight packages on National Highway-913, designated as the Frontier Highway. Packages 1, 3 and 5 cover the Huri-Taliha section, two packages address the Bile-Migging section, Packages 2 and 4 manage the Kharsang-Maio-Gandhigram-Vijaynagar section, and Package 1 focuses on the Bomdila-Nafra-Lada section. The Changlang DC announced also that the survey will be completed within the stipulated period of one month.

This is very good news. Hopefully, after the formation of the new government, the land acquisition process will speed up in other districts too, from where the Frontier highway will pass through. This highly ambitious highway project has the potential to change the face of the state forever. It passes through the areas along the India-China border. Besides giving much-needed infrastructure facility to the defence forces, the Frontier Highway will be a boon for the economic development of the state. Most of the areas along the India-China border are backward. Besides lack of infrastructure, there are no proper job opportunities for the people, due to which many are migrating to urban areas. But once the Frontier Highway is constructed, it can change the fate of the people living in these areas.
