ITANAGAR, 29 Jul: The College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, organized a one-day “Awareness Programme on Growing Green Manuring Crops for Sustainable Soil Health Management under Potential Crops for Hill Farmers of Arunachal Pradesh” in its campus. The program was sponsored by NBPGR, New Delhi, and attended by 30 farmers from Ngopok and Kiyit villages in East Siang.
Dean of CHF prof. B. N. Hazarika provided a detailed introduction to the crops and their benefits for sustainable soil health management, specifically for hill farmers in Arunachal Pradesh. Prof. B.R Phukan and prof. A. Herojit delivered lectures on the importance of growing green manuring crops for sustainable soil fertility management in organic and natural farming. Dr. R.C Shakywar discussed disease management, with a particular emphasis on organic pest management practices.
Earlier, prof. P. Debnath, PI of the project, highlighted key points on the scientific cultivation of various green manuring crops in Arunachal Pradesh.
In addition to the training program, a total of 30 liters of liquid biofertilizer and quality seed materials were distributed among the farmers. The farmers expressed their interest in cultivating green manuring crops such as green gram, black gram, and cowpea.
