HU conducts awareness prog for farmers

KARSINGSA, 20 Sep: The agriculture department of the Himalayan University (HU) organised an awareness programme for farmers, themed ‘Indigenous techniques of irrigation and nutrient management for production and cultivation of crops’, at Karsingsa village in Papum Pare district on Friday.

HU agriculture HoD Dr Raja Husain conducted a practical session on pitcher irrigation of horticultural crops. He updated the farmers regarding crop production technology and the process of availing various government schemes.

HU assistant professor Dr Kasinam Doruk delivered a talk on soil mulching, methods of soil management, and soil fertility.

HU Assistant Professor Dr Sonbeer Chack conducted a practical session on vegetative propagation of horticultural plants, while assistant professor Dr Lipi Rina conducted a practical session on treatment of seeds with biofertilisers before sowing, “which leads to reducing the chances of diseases and increasing the crop yield.”

Papum Pare KVK scientist Tadang Meena delivered a talk on production technology of cereal crops, and spoke on the government schemes for the benefit of farmers.

As part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme, about 28 final year BSc agriculture students of the HU participated in the programme and collected data on different parameters from the farmers.

Dr Raja, along with Tadang Meena and other faculty members distributed seeds of crops such as mustard and millets, and also distributed biofertilisers such as rhizobium, azotobacter, azospirillum, etc, to the farmers.

More than 23 farmers benefitted from the programme.
