LEMMI, 20 Sep: The Pakke-Kessang District Urban Development Agency organised a ‘9-km swachhta marathon and swachhta plogging’ under the Swachhta Hi Sewa (SHS) campaign here on Friday, drawing participants from all walks of life.
The event was flagged off by Pakke-Kessang ZPM Sunil Nabam and SP Tasi Darang.
The Khodaso viewpoint, which is known for its natural beauty and also for its litter problem, was chosen as the initial point for the 9-km event. The marathon was held on NH 13, which cuts through Khodaso, Zeraso and Taoso villages in Pakke-Kessang circle.
The participants were provided with gloves and garbage bags at the start of the event, and throughout the marathon, they collected significant amounts of litter, ranging from plastic bottles to chips wrappers, diapers, papers and other plastic wastes, mostly discarded by passengers plying on NH 13.
During the plogging, the officer participants educated the villagers regarding reducing plastic use and keeping their surroundings neat and clean.
Urban Development & Housing EE Tao Tadapappealed to the public and commuters on NH 13 to join hands in preserving the natural beauty and cleanliness of Pakke-Kessang by disposing of trash responsibly.
Most of the HoDs took part in the event. (DIPRO)
