The report of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar struggling to cope with the growing demands for admission should be looked into by the education department. Established in the year 1979, the DNGC is the most popular college in the state. Every year thousands of students from across the state seek admission in the college. As per the college authorities, even though the intake capacity is only for 1,900 students, for the last three years consistently around 400 students have sought admission in the college. In the coming year, this figure is expected to further increase.
This is a matter of concern and the education department should look to find a solution to it. First of all, the infrastructure in DNGC should be further enhanced to accommodate more students. More classrooms should be constructed in the coming years. Also, the hostel facilities should be improved to accommodate more students in the hostel. Apart from upgrading the infrastructure of DNGC, the education department should explore the possibilities of establishing one more government college in Itanagar. In the next 10 years, the population will grow and more students would like to pursue their higher studies in Itanagar. Considering the future and also the growing burden on DNGC, there is an urgent need for the establishment of one more government colleges in Itanagar.
