Army hoists 73 foot national flag near Gorsam

JEMITHANG, 8 Jan: A 73-foot high-mast national flag was ceremonially hoisted by the Indian Army near Gorsam Chorten here, in the first administrative center towards the Indo-Tibet border in Tawang district, on Wednesday. The tri-color was raised with military honors by Indian Army soldiers, followed by the National anthem and jaikaraas to mark the momentous occasion.

The event, organized jointly by the Indian Army, civil administration, and monks of the Chorten, was presided over by Tawang Brigade Commander Brig. Vipul Singh Rajput, in the presence of Zila Parishad member Lek Norbu, Jemithang circle officer Deewan Mara, Gaon Burahs, school children, and local residents.

This initiative, led by the Tezpur-based Gajraj Corps, was executed by the Ball of Fire Division of the Indian Army in line with the national vision for border area development, with support from the Flag Foundation of India.

This marks the second high-mast flag hoisted in the Tawang sector in the last year. The first one was installed at the strategic Bum La in January of the previous year.

The prestigious high-mast tri-color, besides serving as a national monument and a symbol of pride, has enhanced the grandeur and tourist potential of the border area.

Among the many border area development initiatives, this remains a key project for the future, with plans to install more such high-mast flags at other locations in Tawang. (DIPRO)
