Seminar on ‘Wildlife with Special Reference to Rare Birds of Arunachal Pradesh’

MEBO, 14 May: A one-day seminar on ‘Wildlife with Special Reference to Rare Birds of Arunachal Pradesh’ was organized by the Mebo administration in collaboration with Environmental and Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM) here in East Siang on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng emphasized the urgent need to protect Arunachal Pradesh’s rich avian biodiversity, describing wildlife as “a priceless gift of nature.” He also lauded ECMM’s grassroots efforts in environmental protection.

During the seminar, Surgeon Captain Dr. Marak Pertin of the Indian Navy, who was present as resource person, spoke on rare and endemic bird species of Arunachal Pradesh and shared his inspiring personal and professional journey in a talk titled “Journey from Mountain to Sea.”

The seminar saw enthusiastic participation from students of Don Bosco School and Government Higher Secondary School, along with their principals and teachers. Also in attendance were Gaon Burahs, panchayat leaders of Mebo, representatives from ATREE, wildlife enthusiasts, and government officials.

The educational segment of the seminar featured visual and data presentations on rare and iconic bird species such as the Mishmi Wren Babbler, Bugun Liocichla, and Ward’s Trogon, among others.

The event concluded with an interactive session, where attendees shared thoughts on collaborative strategies for environmental preservation and sustainable community engagement.

Director skill development and co-patron of ECMM Sibo Passing and ADC Mebo Nancy Yirang also attended the seminar.
