NSCN (K-YA) operative arrested

KHONSA, 13 Jun: The Assam Rifles and the Tirap police arrested an NSCN (K-YA) operative following an intelligence-driven operation in Old Kothung village in Tirap district on the intervening night of 9 and 10 June.

The operative has been identified as self-styled captain Kamwang Chakhtey, who has been involved with the group since 1995, Tirap SP Sinjalta Singpho informed in a release.

Security forces recovered a revolver, a hand grenade, live ammunition, organizational stamps, and Rs 1,50,000 in cash from Chakhtey’s possession. “These items confirmed the operative’s involvement in underground activities, extortion, and communication with insurgent leadership,” the SP said.

The operation delivered a significant blow to the NSCN (KYA), undermining their local network and reinforcing public confidence in the Assam Rifles’ and Arunachal Pradesh Police’s dedication to peace and security, he said. (DIPRO)
