Moyong launches book on Emergency

ITANAGAR, 30 Jun: State BJP president Kaling Moyong launched a book titled The Emergency Diaries: Years That Forged a Leader – a compilation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s experiences during the anti-Emergency movement – at the party’s office here on Monday.

“This powerful memoir sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in India’s democratic history – the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977. It captures the courage and resilience of those who stood firm against authoritarianism, risking their lives to uphold the values of democracy,” the BJP stated in a release.

Moyong and the state BJP team discussed the book’s account of a 25-year-old RSS pracharak who worked tirelessly behind the scenes – disguising himself, distributing pamphlets, and organizing support for the families of detained activists.

“These fearless actions played a crucial role in shaping the character and leadership of the young pracharak who would go on to become the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi,” the party said.

Moyong urged everyone, especially the youths, to read the memoir. “This book is not just a historical document – it is a tribute to the spirit of resistance, the power of conviction, and the unwavering courage that defines true leadership,” he said.

The Emergency Diaries serves as a poignant reminder of the price paid for freedom and the importance of safeguarding democratic values for future generations, the party said.
