MIAO, 30 Jun: The Miao Singpho Ramma Hpung [MSRH], along with the All Tai Khamti Singpho Students Union [ATKSSU], and the Miao Taxi Union, with support from the Public Works Department, Miao Division-I and the Highway Division organized a social service along the Miao to Namphai-II road on Monday, covering a distance of 8 kms.

Amid scorching heat, members of the MSRH and the ATKSSU, both boys and girls, along with taxi drivers of Miao cleared the dense vegetation, including jungle growth and standing trees alongside the road from Miao to Namphai-II.

The clearance was done as the presence of trees and foliage had been creating blind spots, making it hard for drivers to drive safely. The absence of clear sightlines also made it challenging for drivers to react appropriately to unexpected situations, potentially resulting in accidents.

Furthermore, domesticated animals venturing onto the road suddenly also become a significant cause of accidents, as their sudden appearance startle drivers and leads to loss of control.

ATKSSU art & culture secretary Ongbu Maan said that there is a need to maintain clear sightlines along the road, as it is crucial for ensuring safe driving conditions. He advocated regular trimming of trees and shrubs, as well as implementing measures to prevent further encroachment of jungle growth onto the road to reduce the risk of accidents and enhance road safety for all users in the area.

Potholes and cracks were also filled up by engaging a JCB detailed by the PWD.

MSRH general secretary Pisi Zausan said that the major potholes and road cracks from Miao to Namphai-I were significant contributors to road accidents, posing dangers to all road users, especially motorcyclists and cyclists.

The MSRH has urged local MLA Kamlung Mossang and the additional deputy commission
