Demo prog on banana chips preparation

SUPLIANG, 29 Jul: Twelve members of the Bamaiya women self-help group (SHG) participated in a demonstration programme on banana chips preparation, organized by the Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Supliang village in Anjaw district on Tuesday.

The programme was aimed at empowering tribal women through small-scale food entrepreneurship.

Bananas, though abundantly available in the region, are often underutilized due to their perishable nature and limited shelf life. The demonstration highlighted how this locally available fruit can be processed into banana chips, a product with year-round demand and good market potential.

The training was led by the KVK’s food and nutrition specialist Pooja Singnale, who provided hands-on guidance on the scientific methods of banana chips preparation. The participants were also trained in proper packaging, labelling, and the process of obtaining an FSSAI licence.

The initiative aims to transform banana processing into a sustainable small food business, improving the income and livelihood opportunities of tribal women in Anjaw district, the KVK stated in a release.
