TAWANG, 1 Aug: Lobsang Chophel, a passionate photographer from Tawang district, won the ‘Best Tourism Destination Online Competition-2025’, organized by the state Tourism Department.

Chophel described Jethang valley in Mago, saying, “Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, Jethang valley is a hidden gem known for its breathtaking bloom of primulas from July to late September. This enchanting valley also serves as a seasonal home to the Brokpas, the yak herders of the region.”

Expressing his delight, he said, “Photography is my passion, and I never expected my work to earn me this recognition. This award has truly motivated me to pursue my passion further.”

Chophel took up photography as a hobby during his school days. He has been documenting a wide genre of photography, including landscapes, culture, religion, and festivals, earning appreciation from people far and near.

According to the Tourism Department, the contest brought together travellers from across the country to share their favorite destinations in Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing scenic landscapes, vibrant cultures, and hidden gems waiting to be explored. The entries were judged based on creativity, storytelling, diversity of destinations, and social media engagement after reviewing hundreds of inspiring submissions.

Chophel was adjudged the grand prize winner for highlighting Jethang-Mago in Tawang. His prize includes an all-expense-paid trip to Arunachal for himself and a companion, featuring guided tours. Ram Kumar from Delhi emerged the runner-up for highlighting Ziro in Lower Subansiri district, and was awarded exclusive travel discounts and gift hampers from Arunachal Pradesh Tourism and its partners.
