MIAO, 1 Aug: The Miao-Vijaynagar (MV) road has been blocked at multiple places since 30 May, due to which remote Vijaynagar in Changlang district remains cut off from the rest of the state.

As per a report, major damage has been witnessed on the stretch from Yachejolo village (85 miles) to Gandhigram. Some portions of the road have even caved in due to heavy rainfall and massive landslides.

The district administration has started the road maintenance work, and as per the report, it has reached up to Miphoto village (82-83 miles). The locals are also doing their part and have cleared blockages by organizing community service. Videos and pictures of locals clearing the blockages were seen on social media. The local community also alleged that road maintenance is very slow.

“Locals cleared the recent blockage. One place was cleared yesterday. The MV road has been blocked at several places since 30 May. The road maintenance is either not working or it is very slow when it is working,” said a resident of Vijaynagar.

The locals also said that people are facing difficulties. “We have to walk miles in difficult conditions for our next journey. It becomes very difficult for children and women. Especially medical patients face a lot of trouble,” a local added.

Meanwhile, Changlang Deputy Commissioner Vishal Shah informed that restoration work began on the first day of the blockage.

“The restoration work has been ongoing since day one, with heavy machinery like a rock breaker being deployed. One major block point has already been cleared, and two more are remaining, which should be cleared very soon,” said Shah.

However, he did agree that people have to walk a few miles to avail transport for travel due to the blockages.
