RUKSIN, 18 Aug: Around 35 farmers received training in modern sericulture techniques during an awareness programme at Linka village here in East Siang district on Monday.
Assam’s Jorhat-based Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute (CMERTI), under the Central Silk Board, conducted the programme under the statewide ‘Mera Resham, Mera Abhiman’ campaign of the Ministry of Textiles.
The aim of the programme was to transfer new sericulture technologies to farmers and boost silk production, Dr Vijay N, a sericulture scientist at CMERTI, said.
The organizers will conduct campaigns at 16 places in four selected districts – East Siang, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, and Lohit – targeting around 10,000 farmers within a period of two weeks.
During the programme, Dr Vijay N provided hands-on training to the farmers on the use of disinfectants and scientific management of silkworms, and prevention of bacterial and fungal infections.
Senior Sericulture Technical Assistant Subedar Pertin, Linka village GB Taja Tapa, and journalist Prafulla Kaman advised farmers to adopt the latest technologies to enhance silk production.
The organizers also distributed lime packets and medicines among the participants.
