Joining the rest of the nation, Arunachal Pradesh celebrated Teachers’ Day on 5 September, with the governor of Arunachal expressing hope that through the commitment of teachers, the state would nurture a generation of enlightened intellectuals, capable minds, and healthy bodies, ready to take Arunachal to greater heights of progress and pride.
To mark the day, which is the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former president of the country, 40 teachers from all categories of government and government-aided private schools were recognized for their services.
This day should serve as a reminder to teachers to commit themselves to the education of children across the state. Many schools are left without teachers because educators are reluctant to join schools where there are few to no facilities for health, housing, and education. It is not fair to expect teachers to go to such schools and sacrifice their own families and personal commitments. Therefore, the government must also reconsider and re-evaluate what needs to be done to ensure that no child is without education. Policy decisions should include input from teachers because they understand the actual problems and can provide practical solutions.
