YUPIA, 18 Sep: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav has urged all executing agencies to ensure timely, transparent and quality implementation of projects for sustainable water and sanitation management in the district.
Chairing a meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC) here on Thursday, convened to review the progress and challenges under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Yadav advised that all departments must be mindful of their duties.
While commending the contributions of the officers of the department concerned, she stressed on the need for clear communication and coordination between stakeholder departments before commencement of any work to avoid damages and delays.
Yupia PHE&WS Division Executive Engineer Nabam Taga delivered a presentation on the status of functional household tap connections (FHTCs), coverage of left-out habitations, protection of catchment areas with engineering structure interventions, and challenges related to water supply.
He also presented the status of individual household latrines (IHHLs), community sanitary complexes, solid and liquid waste management, plastic waste management, and achieving ODF Plus villages.
Taga highlighted the urgent need to augment water supply for Yupia township, noting that the demand has risen from 1 mld to 2.5 mld. He also requested police patrolling to curb the menace of illegal water tapping.
Assistant Engineer Tamchi Shyam from Naharlagun raised concerns regarding collateral damage to water pipelines during road and other developmental works, stressing the need for proper coordination and diversions near head works. (DIPRO)
