Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has requested the Centre to support Arunachal Pradesh’ key infrastructure priorities, with particular emphasis on infrastructure projects such as the augmentation of water supply and drainage systems in Itanagar and other urban areas.

During the pre-budget consultation for the Union Budget 2026-27, the deputy chief minister highlighted that despite Arunachal’s remoteness and longstanding developmental challenges, the state has made steady progress in recent years and continues to adhere to strict fiscal discipline.

During the discussion, the DCM also highlighted the state’s limited access to externally aided projects. Arunachal has been unable to receive external aid and funding due to Chinese objections to international banking agencies financing projects in the state.

Tourism-centric infrastructure was also a key focus of the DCM’s address.

As the state depends on the Centre for the bulk of its funds, the government must prioritise projects that are genuinely needed, both in terms of infrastructure and practical implementation. Education and healthcare remain areas of concern, along with human resource development. Tourism continues to be a major source of income for local communities; therefore, this sector also requires focused attention from the government.
