HAYULIANG, 16 Jan: Twenty farmers, farmwomen and rural youths participated a five-day vocational training programme on ‘training and pruning of kiwi fruits’, organised by the Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Kaho, Kibithoo and Bada Kundan villages from 12-16 January.

During the programme, horticulture scientist Satveer Yadav delivered a lecture on training and pruning of kiwi fruit plants. He explained the role of training and pruning in kiwi cultivation as flowering and fruiting occur on new branches.

“Kiwi plants should be pruned every year during the dormancy period, ie, from December to January,” he said, and highlighted that the climatic conditions of Anjaw district are well suited for kiwi fruit cultivation, making it a potential fruit crop of the district.

He urged the farmers to adopt scientific methods of training and pruning of kiwi plants to enhance their production and productivity.

Land and water management engineer Ugarsain Sangwan highlighted protected cultivation, irrigation, and soil and nutrient management of kiwi fruit orchards.
