TAWANG, 9 Feb: A capacity building training and farmers’ interaction programme on bio-fortified rice varieties was conducted here by the Tawang KVK, in collaboration with Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), on Monday.
During the technical sessions, the participating farmers were educated on bio-fortified rice varieties suitable for hilly regions, their nutritional benefits, and improved cultivation practices. A soil testing kit, distributed as part of the programme inputs, was demonstrated by resource persons from the IIRR, who explained its usage and practical application for on-farm soil testing.
An interactive session followed, during which the farmers raised queries related to rice cultivation and other crops, which were addressed in detail by the experts.
NABARD Tawang DDC Keertika Kashyap highlighted the ongoing and upcoming NABARD initiatives in the district, and informed that capacity-building programmes for farmers and rural communities are in the pipeline.
Besides the expert scientists, Tawang Green Farmers Producers Company chairperson Nawang Chonzom and Jambey Tenzin spoke on the importance of adopting improved agricultural technologies and strengthening farmer institutions.
The programme concluded with input distribution, including bio-fortified rice seeds developed by the IIRR. (DIPRO)
