RONO HILLS, Nov 27: In all, 47 universities from across the eastern region are participating in the East Zone Inter University Football Tournament 2017, which kicked off here at the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) playground on November 27.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor, Tamo Mibang stressed on the importance of sports ethics and called on all students to compete with discipline and athletic ethics.
Professor N C Roy expressed his delight over conducting a mega tournament in the university and hoped that the tournament would be one of the best, with over 1000 participants arriving from other universities.
Organising Secretary, Dr Anil Mili highlighted the prospects of conducting this tournament. He said that the tournament is a platform for friendship and unity and hoped that the tournament would lift the standards of football in the state and country at large.
He further claimed that this tournament would have the highest gathering in the North East states.
The EZIU Football Tournament will continue for one week with the finale scheduled for December 3 next. The tournament will be on knock-out basis.
