ITANAGAR, Apr 28: The state unit of the Consumer Rights Organization (CRO) has in a representation to the capital complex deputy commissioner expressed serious concern over the selling of commodities at inflated rates in the state.
Informing about this, state CRO president Achu Bagang said the DC has taken the issue seriously and would soon issue a price list.
“The commodities are being sold much above the MRP across the state. The situation is especially bad in the capital region. We are glad that the DC has taken serious note of our letter and will come up with a fixed price list soon,” he said.
Bagang also urged the consumers to be vigilant.
“The consumers should seek cash memos from the shopkeepers and complain to the authorities if anyone sells above the fixed price list. If any shopkeeper is found selling above the MRP, the department will take immediate action, including cancelling of trading licence,” he said.
He also appealed to the state government to learn from the Covid-19 crisis and prepare long-term plans.
“The crisis has exposed our dependence on Assam for all kinds of commodities. The government should construct cold storages and warehouses to store the perishable items. The local farmers should be encouraged by the government through the APMCs.
“We seriously need to work out a long-term strategy to end our dependence on Assam,” Bagang said.
