POTIN, May 5: A zonal check gate will be established at the tourist gate near Potin in Lower Subansiri district as a Covid-19 preventive measure for five districts.
This decision was taken during a consultative meeting of all the deputy commissioners, SPs and DMOs of Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kurmey districts, here on Tuesday.
A committee headed by Education Minister Taba Tedir, who is also the local MLA, was constituted during the meeting to oversee the constructions and installation of basic essential services at the check gate.
It was also decided to allow the passage of trucks caring LPGs and those carrying gravel/ sand from the crushers within Kimin circle through Potin after disinfection.
Addressing the officers, Home Minister Bamang Felix said, “Our battle with Covid-19 is a long one. We will have to learn to live with Covid-19 and adopt measures to prevent infection.”
He said that “a well-fortified check gate” at Potin, which is the gateway to all the districts of erstwhile undivided Subansiri, will be a concrete step towards controlling the spread of the pandemic in the area.
“With the government’s decision to bring back our stranded brothers and sisters from across the country, we will have to be more vigilant, ensure proper screening and also ensure there are no leakages from any check gates,” the minister said while exhorting all the DCs, SPs and DMOs to work out modalities for sparing manpower to man the zonal check gate.
He further suggested constituting flying squads to ensure that the truck drivers and handymen of the trucks carrying essential goods are restricted to their trucks and do not wander around.
“All our districts will be safe if this gate is made functional and dedicatedly manned,” he added while assuring all assistance to make the gate functional.
Agriculture Minister Tage Taki and Education Minister Taba Tedir also assured to provide assistance, and directed the Yachuli ADC, who would be the coordination secretary for the check gate, to functionalize it before lockdown 3.0 ends.
