PASIGHAT, May 15: Pasighat ADC (HQ) Tatdo Borang stressed the need for a carefully-planned lockdown exit policy.
“The reopening process has to be carefully planned and even more carefully executed in order to secure livelihood and save lives,” Borang said during a coordination meeting with members of CBOs, NGOs and student unions at the DC’s conference hall here in East Siang district on Thursday.
“We need an exit strategy or a post-shutdown plan that protects our wellbeing. The pandemic’s impact on the global economy is already being felt. Some of us can work from home, but all do not have that option. It is important to consider reopening key sectors of the economy with strict physical distancing, hygiene norms and other controls in place,” he said, adding that all possible measures would be taken on priority to protect human lives and secure livelihood.
ABK Women’s Wing president Oti Sitang Eko called for a complete ban on transportation of vegetables from Assam until the situation improves.
The ABK’s East Siang unit Covid-19 task force member Daniel Gao suggested “properly manning the interstate boundaries by constituting village-level committees.”
Another member, Kalen Komut, said the home-quarantined persons should be properly checked by the local people, in collaboration with the district administration.
WASE president Yamik Darang and AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai also spoke.
Dai said holding meetings with stakeholders like CBOs, student unions and women organizations who are coordinating with district administration in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic from time to time is a welcome step.
EAC (Judicial) Kamin Darang, DSP T Tatak and OC Atan Taki also attended the meeting.
Members of various student and youth organizations of the district, including the East Siang District Students’ Union, attended the meeting. They submitted a six-point joint memorandum to the ADC. (DIPRO)
