Prog on nutritional gardens held

KHONSA, Jul 7: Twenty-six agriculture and horticulture extension workers from Khonsa and Borduria participated in an in-service training programme on ‘nutritional gardening in Tirap district’, organized here by the Tirap KVK on Tuesday.
Addressing the participants, DC Bhanu Prabha elaborated the nutritional gardening project in the district and advised adopting “at least 20 farmers by each and every extension worker and help them produce their own required vegetables and sell the excess amounts in nearby markets to become self-independent,” a release from the KVK stated.
Agronomy scientist Dr Simanta Kumar Kalita made a PowerPoint presentation on all the aspects of nutritional gardening, and advised the extension workers to “give more emphasis on year-round harvest of required fresh, toxic-free fruits and vegetables for self-consumption,” according to the release.
KVK Head, Dr DS Chhonkar also spoke.
Various issues faced by the extension workers at the grassroots level were also discussed, it said.
