ITANAGAR, Jan 12: National Youth Day (NYD) was celebrated in various parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, with various activities to commemorate the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Attending the National Youth Day celebration at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu, Arunachal Pradesh State Information Commission’s Chief Information Commissioner Dr Joram Begi said that Directorate of Youth Affairs must come up with certain policy and developmental schemes to showcase the talent of youths in different fields and show them the right direction.
Lauding the state government for creation of a separate Directorate of Youth Affairs, he said “the need of the hour is to give more focus on youths.”
He advised the students to dedicate their time in studies as they need to dedicate their service in nation building process in future which is one of the main objectives of Swami Vivekananda. He also advised the youths to keep away from anti social activities.
Youth Affairs Director DK Dinglow informed that the Directorate of Youth Affairs, being a newly bifurcated Directorate, is trying its best possibilities to take up youth developmental activities including adventure sports in the state.
The draft State Youth Policy & AP Mountaineering Act is under submission to the Government for consideration & approval, he said.
RGU Assistant Registrar Gomar Basar advised the students of SLSA that since they have opted sports as their career, they should never give up their dedication and hard work to reach up to Olympics level.
As a part of the celebration, Prabhat Pherry, Social service and literary competitions were conducted. Students from VKV, Chimpu, Government Secondary school, Chimpu, SLSA and officers and staff of the Directorate of Youth Affairs, Directorate of Sports, Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy & Sports Authority of Arunachal participated in the celebration which was organized by the Directorate of Youth Affairs.
Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) in association with the NSS unit of Government Higher Secondary School, Doimukh, celebrated NYD with various activities.
In his keynote address, APSACS Project Director, Dr Riken Rina highlighted the contributions made by Swami Vivekananda in nation-building and shaping the youth of the nation. He also highlighted Swami Vivekananda 1893 Chicago speech, in which he impressed people from the world over to look towards India and its people.
Dr Rina also administered a pledge for the students to remain responsible towards themselves and to the nation to mark the day.
Emphasizing the role of the youth in nation-building, Dr Rina stressed on the need to remain alert from various diseases, especially HIV/AIDS, and drug abuse, which affect the young.
Doimukh GHSS Principal N Riba asked the students to equip themselves with knowledge to prevent HIV/AIDS. He requested the APSACS to organize more such important programmes in his school.
APSACS Dy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali asked young people to stay away from HIV and drug abuse and concentrate on their career. He also explained about drugs and drug abuse.
“Drug abuse can lead to social disturbances like theft, burglary, snatching, street crime, familial disharmony, and law and order problems,” he said.
NSS Programme Officer J Mishra also spoke.
In West Siang HQ Aalo, around 1500 people including monks, students and teachers of RKM School with posters and banners took out a procession in the main thoroughfare of the town to the mark the celebration of National Youth Day.
The procession also marked the beginning of the golden jubilee celebration of the Rama Krishna Mission (1966-2016) in February next.
The Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) in Kuporijo celebrated National Youth Day with cultural programmes.
Upper Subansiri VKV Alumni Secretary Tade Gumja highlighted the value of education in the present era and appealed to parents to take care of their children. VKV Kuporijo Principal Ashis Chatterjee, and senior teacher Tripur MP Chaubey also spoke.
In Yazali, the students of the NEEPCO VKV and villagers jointly celebrated National Youth Day at Billo, Poosa, Potin and Chullu villages with colourful cultural programmes.
While addressing the villagers and students at Billo village, renowned social worker Tab Appa recalled the contributions of Swami Vivekananda to the world. Appa also lauded the role of Vivekananda Kendras and its various wings in the field of education.
VKV NEEPCO Yazali Vice Principal TM Sathian highlighted the contributions of the school in the field of education.
ASM Tao Leli and Gaon Burah Taba Dol also spoke the occasion.
Similarly, National Youth Day was celebrated at Chullu, Potin and at Poosa villages with participation of large number of people.
In Roing, the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated at VKV there with participation of school children and parents on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Roing ADC Chesta Yadav advised the students to keep up the tempo of participation in academic and non-academic activities. She also praised the VKV authority for imparting quality education along with moral values to the students from far flung areas. She assured to provide financial and administrative support if needed for the school authority.
