SAGALEE, Jan 12: Pai panchayat and Totpu panchayat became champions in men’s and women’s section, respectively, of the first inter-panchayat volleyball tournament organized by Clean and Green Sagalee at the general ground here.
Pai panchayat beat Reeye panchayat and Totpu panchayat beat Kamrung panchayat in the finals to win the trophies in the men’s and women’s category, respectively.
Tarh Saha and Tarh Adam were adjudged the best man and woman player, respectively.
Old Mengio panchayat bagged the disciplined team awards in both men’s and women’s sections.
The winners and runners-up teams of both the sections were awarded cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 each, respectively. Rs 5,000 each was awarded to the best players, and Rs 3000 each was given to the disciplined teams.
Itanagar PHED Division AE Debia Paadang, who attended the closing ceremony, urged the people, especially motorists, not to litter on the roads while driving.
“By developing this simple civic sense, we can keep our area clean,” he said.
ASMs Nabam Hari (Pan) and Techi Serbang (New Bokriang) also attended the closing ceremony. They appealed to the public of Sagalee to cooperate with the ‘Clean and Green Sagalee’ campaign and the endeavor to keep the area clean.
Earlier, the opening ceremony on 9 January was attended by former chief minister and Sagalee MLA Nabam Tuki, who announced Rs 1 lakh cash award for the ‘cleanest panchayat of the year’ in his constituency, and said the award would be given away on 26 January and 15 August.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by Clean and Green Sagalee President Hina Tana Tara, Tuki urged the people of Sagalee town to donate a plot of land for constructing a garbage dump. He urged the people to maintain cleanliness and high degree of sanitation in their daily life.
Sagalee PHED AE Tana Joma, officials of the PHE and UD departments, PRI leaders, GBs and public from all the six circles of Sagalee constituency attended the inauguration function.
