NAMSAI, Jan 16: Namsai district celebrated attaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status on Tuesday at the PHE&WS complex here.
The district had achieved the ODF status on 24 December, 2017.
Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma congratulated the people of the district and the department concerned for the achievement. He urged the people to maintain the habit of using toilets, and requested the department to repair defunct toilets in schools and other community toilets in the district.
SDO Orin Lego, members of the Village Water Sanitation Community and panchayat members from various villages attended the programme.
ZPC CK Maunglang requested the panchayat members to create awareness on the importance of toilets during panchayat meetings, which he said should be held every three months.
PHE&WS Executive Engineer Nich Raju gave details on the ODF status of the district.
About 28 staffers of the department were also felicitated with certificates of appreciation.
