ITANAGAR, Sep 14: One of India’s top IAS coaching institutes, Alternative Learning System (ALS) has opened its 51st branch here in Itanagar.
With the opening of an ALS branch here, the aspirants can avail IAS training in their own state. The coaching will be done through live interactive satellite classes and a quarterly visit by the faculties.
“The students here will avail the same faculty, books with same content live as the rest of the aspirants from across the nation”, said ALS national sales head, Prateek Bhattacharya.
Highlighting its scholarship initiatives, Bhattacharya informed that they would offer scholarship amount worth Rs 25 lakhs of the course fee. He informed that a mega scholarship examination will be held in Dera Natung Government College on September 24 and the toppers of the examination (a girl and a boy) will be given 100 percent waiver on the course fee.
There are 10 special scholarship schemes each (25 percent waiver on course fees) for children of sportsmen, martyrs and handicapped children, besides 20 scholarships for women who fail to make it to the top 100 students, informed Bhattacharya.
The permanent residents of the state in the age group of 21 to 30 years are only eligible for the scholarship exam, informed Bhattacharya, adding that more than 750 students have already registered for the examination which is free. The last date of registration is September 23.
Speaking at a press briefing, IPS Robin Hibu informed that besides the ALS scholarships, his NGO, Helping Hands is also initiating 120 scholarships from MLA and MPLAD funds.
He informed that the Helping Hands is in touch with every MLA of the state to sponsor one boy and girl who are the brightest in their respective constituencies.
Informing that criteria for selection of students will be based on the 10th, 12th, and graduation mark sheets, he said that preference will be given to students who are financially weaker.
Hibu also informed that the students of the state can also avail scholarship from NE scholarship selection exam which has a total scholarship of Rs 1.6 crore. He also informed that the Helping Hands is requesting the DoNER ministry to grant scholarship to at least 50 to 100 students from each NE state.
