NAMSAI, Jan 25: The Namsai Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) distributed 2000 Vanaraja and Kalinga Brown poultry chicks along with feed and medicine to 30 beneficiaries in Kaisu village on Thursday to help them establish a ‘poultry village’.
This is the first ever initiative in the district to establish a poultry village. The programme is aimed at doubling the farmers’ income by introducing them to poultry farming activities.
The Kalinga Brown poultry variety lays a good number of eggs compared to the local ones. The Vanaraja variety, on the other hand, grows very fast and lays eggs early.
Senior scientist Dr Debasis Sasmal encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training programmes, demonstrations, etc, organised by the KVK to develop model duck and poultry farms.
Animal science SMS Dr BKD Borah spoke about breeding, feeding and managing the birds, and informed that the birds would be vaccinated in due course of time.
