The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has announced a 36-hour capital bandh from 13 January, seeking resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
On 10 December last year, the ANYA had accused the CM of corruption and had submitted a representation to the state government, serving a 15-day ultimatum, seeking clarification on the allegation.
According to the ANYA, the clarification did not come, following which it sought the resignation of the chief minister.
The government should have come up with a clarification when it was demanded, but it did not.
It finally came up with a clarification after the latest bandh announcement.
Bandh, no matter what the issue is or who is enforcing it, never serves any purpose. It is harassment of the public and especially those who are daily wage earners. As it is, livelihood options are limited. Who will compensate them?
The ANYA and the government should come to the negotiating table and sort out the issues. Confrontation will not help.
