NAHARLAGUN, 11 Jan: More than 50 volunteers and members of the public participated in a cleanliness drive organized by the Itanagar Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), in collaboration with the youth affairs directorate, at C Sector here on Tuesday, on the eve of the National Youth Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Prior to the drive, Itanagar NYK district youth officer Chunthuingam Dangmei spoke about the contributions of the freedom fighters and Swami Vivekananda to the country, while environmentalist Oyin Komboh motivated the participants to be sensitive to the deteriorating environment and increasing air pollution in the Itanagar Capital Region.
“It is essential that we reduce the use of plastics to a large extent for the sake of our environment,” she added.
The participants collected a huge quantity of plastic waste during the drive, which saw the participation of youths of C Sector, officials and volunteers from the NYK, and the staff of the youth affairs directorate.
The youth affairs directorate also organized cleanliness drives in various parts of Itanagar, Naharlagun and Nirjuli, in collaboration with the sports directorate, the Sports Authority of Arunachal, the SLSA, the NSS, and others.
