The report of repeated encroachment inside the Namdhapa National Park and Tiger Reserve is a matter of serious concern. In the last two months, the forest officials had to conduct eviction drives twice against the encroachers.
With the Mioa to Vijaynagar road being constructed, it is alleged that people are trying to start human settlement inside the park. This is very wrong and should be discouraged at all costs. The Namdhapa National Park and Tiger Reserve is home to many endangered wildlife species. It is the duty of everyone to protect the park. The government alone cannot protect the park.
However, the encroachment inside national parks and reserve forests is not limited to Namdhapa only. Today, such activities are being reported from across the state. With the human population growing, such conflicts between humans and animals are increasing at an alarming rate. There is a need to maintain balance.
The environment and forest department needs to work more in this field. The national parks and reserve forests will have to be protected. For this, the local people should be made partners. If they are involved, they will feel responsible and will definitely play an important role in saving these assets.
