LHOU, 12 May: Union Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated an Eri silk training-cum-production centre at the Monyul Development Centre (MDC) here in Tawang district on Thursday, in the presence of KVIC (NEZ) member Duyu Tamo, Arunachal Pradesh KVIB Chairman Dominic Tadar, Tawang ZPC Leki Gombu, and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Saxena said that “the KVIC is always trying to reach interior villages to provide a job to every hand,” adding that the KVIC is “ready to extend its support in any project that revives age-old traditional art, and will empower the artisans to employ others.”
He informed that the KVIC has provided training to the traditional potters of Tawang “and shall empower potters under the Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana.”
Bomdila (W/Kameng)-based Buddhist Culture Preservation Society president Geshi Dhondup Tsering expressed gratitude to the KVIC chairman for extending support to revive the handloom and handicraft centre, which had been initiated by late Tsona Gontse Rinpoche in 1987.
He also requested the government to “continue its support for making this project sustainable in days to come.”
KVIC Deputy CEO (NEZ) Dr Sukamal Deb recalled the contribution made by late Tsona Rinpoche in starting the handloom project here, and urged the KVIC to “revive the Kasturba Seva Mandir in Tawang for sale of khadi products.”

Saxena later distributed certificates to the trainees who completed training in wood turning at the MDC here. (DIPRO)
