ITANAGAR, 12 Jun: Intensive search operations are ongoing for two Indian Army jawans who are missing since 28 May, a defence release said.
The jawans had been deployed in forward areas of Anjaw district.
“Naik Prakash Singh and Lance Naik Harender Singh, deployed in a forward post of Arunachal Pradesh are presumed to have accidentally fallen into a fast-flowing river in close proximity to their post,” Kohima-based Defence PRO Lt Col Sumit K Sharma said in a release.
“Despite immediate and extensive search and rescue operations, including aerial reconnaissance and tracker dogs being pressed into action, no success in recovery of the personnel has been achieved,” the release said.
A court of inquiry to investigate into the incident has been convened by the army, Col Sharma said.
The family members of the two soldiers, hailing from Uttarakhand, have been informed of the unfortunate incident and are being regularly updated, the release added.
