RONO HILLS, Feb 11: The Youth Mission for Clean River-AP (YMfCR-AP) launched a media campaign for its ‘Clean river mission’ in a function at the RGU’s mini auditorium here on Saturday.
The group’s ‘Mission clean Senki river’ will start at the Senki river and its tributaries in Chandranagar on 17 February. This will be followed by a statewide awareness campaign on protection and revival of the rivers in the state.
Addressing the launch function, RGU Registrar Prof Tomo Riba expressed concern over the condition of the rivers in the state.
“The rivers are going extinct rapidly. It is time we needed to be aware and acted accordingly,” he said, according to a release from the YMfCR-AP.
The IMfCR-AP’s campaign has received a boost with a large number of RGU faculty members joining the mission to create awareness on conservation of rivers.
The YMfCR-AP meanwhile criticized the state government’s ‘Pare nadi safai abhiyan’, saying there was no need to spend public money on cleaning the Pare river, which is said it already clean.
‘If the state government is concerned about cleanliness of rivers, it should start its safai abhiyan from the Senki river in state capital. Cleaning of an already clean river is a complete wastage of public money,’ it stated in the release.
