NIRJULI, Feb 23: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) on Friday said that indefinite protest will start from February 27 next instead of February 24.
Informing this, Vice President (Admin) of AAPSU Meje Taku said that the decision was taken in the wake of the ensuing Nyokum Yullo festival that is being observed state-wide.
“So far we have received only assurances and nothing in written regarding our demand for a regular director for NERIST. The strike will go on till our demand is fulfilled”, the AAPSU vice President further said.
Further strengthening their stand, SUN President Banta Natung said that the protest has been postponed after discussions with NERIST Alumni Association and NERIST Employees’ Association.
Earlier on January 24, SUN under the aegis of AAPSU had organized a protest rally from the institute campus to Bage Tinali at Nirjuli and served an ultimatum of one month to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for appointment of a regular director within February 24.
The AAPSU and SUN have been demanding for the posting of regular director at NERIST. The premier technical institute of state has been functioning without regular director for the last many years thereby hampering the functioning of the NERIST.
