ITANAGAR, May 11: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has appealed to the state government to maintain the existing 80:20 recruitment rules in all recruitments and promotional aspects in police and all other departments in the state.
Claiming that the police department has appealed for one time relaxation for promotion of both APST and non-APST sub-inspectors to the rank of inspector on the basis of 50:50, the AAPSU said that the one-time relaxation would set a wrong precedent which shall definitely encourage other departments to follow the same in future.
AAPSU president Hawa Bagang stated that such a proposal is against the interest of the indigenous people and it will not accept an illogical approach.
Strongly opposing the proposal for one-time waiver of 80:20 reservation policy for promotion in police department, Bagang said that the state government should not undermine the sentiments of the tribal populace in a cent percent tribal state like Arunachal Pradesh. “Such proposal if accepted would also demoralize the tribal officers and officials,” he added.
AAPSU strongly urged the State Government not to accord approval to any such proposal which shall ‘affect the existing 80:20 ratio in recruitment and promotion in all government departments.
Meanwhile, AAPSU has strongly condemned the reported physical assault of one Doi Doji, a student of NIT, Agartala at the hostel premises. The apex student body demanded immediate arrest of all the accused and disciplinary action by the college authorities against them.
