KHONSA, 21 Jul: Issues related to the roles, responsibilities and welfare of the gaon buras (GB) and head gaon buras (HGB) were discussed during a meeting of the Tirap Gaon Bura Welfare Association (TGBWA), chaired by its president Tawang Wangsa, here on Thursday.
Addressing the 63 GBs and HGBs who participated in the meeting, Wangsa, who is also the GB of Kaimai village, sought their cooperation to strengthen the TGBWA (a registered society), and urged them to not indulge in any kind of unlawful activities, including using opium and other drugs.
Old Paniduria GB Ngoangman Kakho stressed the need for the GBs to be disciplined, and urged them to “stay united to strengthen the TGBWA,” while Chasa HGB Phochang Wangsu spoke on the need for hiking of GBs’ honorarium.
New Kothin HGB Wahang Sumpa said that “the roles and responsibilities of GBs in a place like Tirap is tough as they have to work under immense pressure.”
GBs and HGBs from Namsang, Lapnan, New Doidam, Old Changnyak and Khonsa also shared their views, and spoke about the problems they have been facing in their respective villages.
Earlier, resource person from the DIPRO office, Gawang Sumpa, informed the GBs and the HGBs about the central and state government schemes being implemented by different departments. (DIPRO)
