DAPORIJO, Mar 18: A tense situation prevailed here after a scuffle between two groups of students over conduct of conference of a student body on Sunday.
A student was severely injured in the scuffle, who has been admitted in District Hospital, Daporijo.
The situation was brought under control after police intervened.
Upper Subansiri District Magistrate Danish Ashraf on Saturday promulgated an order under section 144 CrPC to not conduct the conference till further order, sensing that unpleasant situation might occur as one group had reportedly locked up the main gate of the Singhik Hall to prevent entry of any student for registration for the conference.
However, notwithstanding the order issued by the DM, a group of students made attempt to conduct the conference at Sippi village, which led to the scuffle between the two groups.
Reportedly, police have received complaints from both the groups and launched investigation.
In the meantime, the DM issued an order afresh under section 144CrPC prohibiting mass gathering, meeting, conference and carrying of lethal weapons, including dao (machete) in public places.
Meanwhile, the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) vehemently condemned the scuffle among the students community creating disturbance in the area.
The TCS appealed to the law enforcing authority to immediately restore peace in the area and tighten the security for the safety and security of the students.
