ITANAGAR, Apr 2: National Health Mission (NHM) Mission Director Tapasya Raghav on Monday appealed to the people to make cleanliness a way of life.
Launching the Swachhata Pakhwada (cleanliness fortnight) at the office premises of the directorate of family welfare/NHM, Raghav urged everyone to be a part of the cleanliness mission and develop the habit of keeping their surroundings clean.
She also spoke about personal hygiene and cleanliness, and said that maintaining good personal hygiene is the first step to good health.
Family Welfare Director Dr K Lego informed that the cleanliness fortnight is a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission being observed by the health & family welfare ministry as per schedule.
During the fortnight, the District Health Societies will organize training programmes on patient care and waste management, infection control, and housekeeping for standard cleanliness practice.
“Focus will also be given on open defecation, sanitation practice at anganwadi centres, personal and home hygiene, and hand washing at community level,” he said, and appealed to the people to join the cleanliness mission.
Earlier, Raghav led others in taking the swachhta pledge.
Swachhata Pakhwada was also launched at the KPM district hospital in Hayuliang.
Anjaw DMO Dr K Perme highlighted the objectives of the cleanliness drive and the various activities to be carried out during the fortnight, such as disposal of hospital waste, infection control measures, IEC activities, cleanliness drive etc.
