The arrest of six individuals – reportedly activists of the ANSU – for vandalising a watch store in Akashdeep complex in Itanagar is extremely shameful. Whatever the reason might be, there is no justification for such an act in modern society. Arunachal Pradesh has changed a lot in the last 20 years and has accepted the modern open society. Unfortunately, incidents like this hurt the image of the state badly. With airports and railways, the state has been making an effort to attract new investment and boost the local economy.
Government jobs alone will not be able to meet the growing job demand in the state. The private sector will generate the maximum number of jobs for the youths. However, for the private sector to thrive, a business-friendly environment should be created. Law and order should be under control and businessmen should not be harassed. The Itanagar Capital Region is an emerging cosmopolitan city. The student organisations, in particular the ANSU, can play an important role in marketing the ICR as a business destination for investors. The ANSU should help to create a congenial atmosphere, so that private investors are encouraged to make investments and create job opportunities for the local youths. Hooliganism will only hurt the local economy in the long run.
