The report of staffers of the directorate of elementary education resisting the reshuffling of staffers is unfortunate. These staffers are allegedly using political connection to try stalling the transfer and posting order which was issued recently. This move is unfortunate and the senior officials of the education department should not buckle under the pressure of these staffers. The education department has come under a lot of criticism in the last decade for various reasons. The new Education Minister, PD Sona, has been trave;ling across the state to try understanding the problem, so that action can be taken to improve performance and image of the department.
The transfer and posting of the staffers of directorate of elementary education seems to be the first step in this regard. Most of the staffers posted in the directorate are occupying the same position for last 15 to 20 years. A sense of complacence has crept, due to which their performance has dropped down drastically. It is time new staffers should be given a chance, so that they work with renewed zeal. The politicians should also stop interfering in the routine work of the department. If the quality of education goes down, it affects everyone. The politicians should understand this and let the department function independently.
