Legal aid clinic inaugurated

YINGKIONG, 30 Jan: A legal aid clinic was inaugurated at the police station here in Upper Siang district on Thursday by Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) Member Secretary Yomge Ado, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, SP Token Saring, and others.

The legal aid clinic will provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities. A team of paralegal volunteers will provide free legal aid counselling, free legal advice, etc.

The event was followed by a legal awareness programme, conducted by the APSLSA in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), at the multipurpose hall here.

During the programme, the APSLSA member secretary highlighted the roles and functions of legal aid clinics and paralegal volunteers.

The DC and the SP also spoke.

In the technical session, DLSA retainer advocate Sunny Tayeng spoke on various aspects of legal aid clinic, NALSA mandated schemes which provide free and competent legal services, the victim compensation schemes, marriage registration, the POCSO Act, and other legal issues, while District Child Protection Officer Akoying Tekseng gave a presentation on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and informed that in Upper Siang district 38 children are sponsored under the Centre’s Mission Vatsalya.
