NIT director points at growing significance of cybersecurity
JOTE, 21 Mar: A five-day workshop titled ‘Cyber security – Current trends and challenges’, organised by the computer science department of the NIT here, concluded on Friday.
The workshop brought together academicians, researchers, and industry experts to dive into the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the world of cybersecurity.
NIT Director Prof Mohan V Aware emphasised the growing significance of cybersecurity in the increasingly digital world. Over the course of five days, experts from IIT Kanpur, ISI Kolkata, NIT Sikkim, and MNNIT Prayagraj led engaging sessions that covered a range of topics, including hardware security, the role of artificial intelligence in cyber defences, post-quantum cryptography, IoT security, and protecting surveillance systems.
The speakers highlighted the impact of machine learning on cybersecurity, showcasing innovative AI-driven threat detection models. They also spoke on tackling the challenges posed by quantum computing in discussions about post-quantum security, while case studies on IoT vulnerabilities, underground mine safety, and surveillance security offered practical insights.
The participants actively involved in discussions on the pressing challenges in cybersecurity.
On the final day, the director delivered a keynote address on the critical importance of cybersecurity, stressing the need for ongoing education and proactive security measures. Experts also proposed various avenues for future research, encouraging faculty and researchers to delve into emerging fields like AI-based security, zero-trust architectures, and post-quantum cryptographic solutions.
Under the guidance of the director, with Assistant Professor Dr Subhashish Banerjee as the coordinator and Computer Science HoD Dr Rajat Goswami serving as the convener, the organising committee, which also included Dr Swanendra Kumar Chakraborty and other faculty members, ensured that everything ran smoothly.
